We work with a lot of other vendors in the wedding biz, and we have had the pleasure to work with some fantastic photographers! We thought we would ask some Preferred Vendors to answer some questions for us so we could feature them right here on our blog so you can get to know them!
First up is Ariel from AP Photography!
Tell us a little about yourself!
I’m a super laid back but driven photographer/person with a desire to help and serve others. Making sure my three tiny monsters...err... humans stay alive throughout the day is one of my full time jobs. You know, other than being a passionate photographer, freaking awesome wife and a “Rachel Ray ain’t got nothing on me” cook (Seriously, my food is delish).
How did you get started in Wedding Photography?
Wedding photography started as a pipe dream for me. However after shooting several weddings as the second shooter I soon realized that this is what I wanted to specialize in. After many model calls and building a portfolio in any areas I could, that soon led to one wedding and then another and another. I now shoot many weddings every year and I love every minute of it. (except the part where I have to leave!) Every bride and groom is unique and every wedding is extremely special, so it’s something I never gotten tired of.
What do you most enjoy about shooting weddings?
Meeting people, capturing all their feels, sharing their story, watching them enjoy one of the most important and joyous days of their lives, creating art with them and hello, the CAKE!.... need I go on?
What is your most popular package?
Most of my clients chose my 8 hour package with 2 shooters. Often times it fits easily into a budget as well as giving the client a somewhat flexible timeline and Freebies!!!
What are some questions you are frequently asked by couples before they book you?
Is there a deposit? How many weddings do you shoot per year? Do we have to come up with our own poses? Will you help me build a timeline for the day?
The Answers are: Yes, I require a retainer fee of $500 to reserve your day.
I typically take around 20 weddings per year.
I will guide you every step of the way in the posing department. However I won’t position everything making it look like a stale, posed 1980s photo. I give you ideas and guidelines of what I would like you to do and might tweak a few positions along the way.
I meet with all my clients (or at the very least do a video chat or phone call) before their big day to help them build a timeline. Timelines are very important to get everyone on the same page and insure a smooth flow to the day with minimal hiccups. It takes a lot of weight off of the bride and groom so they’re not constantly worrying about if we have time to fit everything in.
What sets you apart from other photographers?
Does my wit and charm count? ....Didn’t think so. I’m from a very small town, but I have big ideas. The small town roots keep me able to relate on a human level, not just a business/money driven level. I help my clients negotiate through their day before it even comes so that there are minimal hiccups and no surprises on wedding day. I want my clients to sit in the moments of pure bliss on their day rather than watching it as it goes by. On the flip side, my experience keeps my mind ready and alert for any situation and keeps my business advancing with all the latest techniques and technologies out there. But at the end of the day the goal is for my clients to have the most fun and for me to provide them with the best possible photos they can dream of. (Got a little serious there!!)
What stands out to you about spending a day shooting alongside Applause?
Shooting with Applause makes my job a breeze compared to what it could be. I never stumble over their videographers because they’re so polite and good at what they do. I like that they make sure to get the shots they want/need, without being pushy and rude to the client or photographer. They keep their couple informed of what’s going on and what their next step is. Keep up the great work peeps!!
Anything else you want to add?
Aside from my family, Photography is my greatest joy. It’s art, it’s a thought that is brought to life, it’s the only way to freeze time and it’s (in my opinion) the best way to capture emotions without words. I work extremely hard to bring your pictures to life by conveying thoughts and feelings through every photo. But really.... just have some fun!
